Your Information, Protected

Privacy & Data Security

You hand your accountant some of the most sensitive information you have: Social Security numbers, bank statements, income, family details. Here is exactly how we protect it, in plain English.

We treat your data like we treat your money

Everything you share with us stays between us. We never sell your information, we never share it for marketing, and federal law backs that up. Documents move through an encrypted client portal, not email attachments, and access is limited to the people actually working on your account.

What we collect and why

We collect only what we need to do the work you hire us for: identification details, income and expense records, account statements, payroll data, and prior tax returns. If we ask for something, it is because a form, a filing, or your tax strategy requires it.

How your information is protected

Client documents are exchanged and stored through our TaxDome client portal, which encrypts your data in transit and at rest. We ask clients to upload documents there rather than emailing them, because the portal is the safer road.

We maintain a written information security plan consistent with the FTC Safeguards Rule and IRS guidance for tax professionals (IRS Publication 4557), covering how data is stored, who can access it, and how we respond if something ever goes wrong.

Anyone who assists with your account works under confidentiality obligations that match our own. Access to client information is limited to the people actually performing your work.

What we will never do

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with third parties for their marketing. Federal law, specifically Internal Revenue Code Section 7216, prohibits tax return preparers from using or disclosing your tax return information for any purpose other than preparing your return unless you give written consent, and we take that seriously.

The only third parties that touch your data are the software platforms we use to serve you (such as TaxDome, QuickBooks Online, and DocuSign), and only to the extent needed to do the work.

How long we keep records

We retain engagement records and workpapers for seven years, which protects you if a prior-year question ever comes up. After that, records are securely destroyed.

Questions?

If you ever have a question about how your information is handled, ask. You will get a straight answer from the person who actually handles it.
